The Prime Minister of India is the leader of the country’s democratically elected government. Prime Minister is usually the leader of the party or coalition holding a majority in Parliament. Upon assuming office, the Prime Minister is administered the oath of office and secrecy by the President.

The Prime Minister selects the Cabinet before being sworn in and administers the oath of office to other Union Ministers on his or her recommendation. However, the Prime Minister decides which minister will be assigned which portfolio.
